From the 1949 American Ski Annual, we bring you the report describing
the very first Fourth-of-July ski jumping competition in Lake Placid.

We first posted this story on 'Blast from the Past' in 2009, 60 years after the article first appeared.
The author, Ron McKenzie was a great supporter of ski jumping in Lake Placid. He died at the ski jumps climbing the stairs to watch Joe Lamb take the very first jump on the new P-70 meter Olympic ski jump in the winter of 1978-79.
