THE FIRST IMC TO BE CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF SNOW

Rasnov Jumps

In February of 2014, the Old Boys of the ski jumping world were preparing to assemble in Rasnov, Romania for the 25th International Masters Championships and the Rasnov hosts had worked hard to be ready to receive the athletes. The IMC program was set, participants were registered, rooms were reserved, everything was ready -- except the snow. Warm weather had melted early snow and made it impossible to make artificial snow. After much discussion and hand-wringing, the decision was made to cancel the IMC for 2014. Thus the 25th IMC was the first Championship to be called off -- not a bad record. The picture above tells the whole story. It should have looked more like the picture below.

Rasnov Jumps

This town of less than 16000 souls, approximately in the center of Romania, offered more than jumping on a complex of shiny new ski jumps.
Rasnov is an old town with much to see, overlooked by a massive citadel on a rocky hilltop (below). Perhaps we will all have another opportunity to visit Rasnov.
