A July 4th Photo Album
(and a Love Story)

Ski jumpers from all over the U.S. travelled to Lake Placid for summer training and the annual July Fourth competition. They were greeted by hot July weather but enjoyed some good summer jumping. On the Fourth, fifty four skiers signed up to compete in three classes. When the jumping was over, everybody enjoyed a cookout. Here are some pictures intended to give a flavor of the day. (Thanks to Barbara West for snapping the pictures.)

As Liz Szotyori slid to a stop after her first competition jump, announcer Chris Hastings asked for a brief break. A tall, handsome blond lad named Mike stepped onto the outrun, took Chris's microphone and with with the ski jumping world listening, he asked Liz to be his bride. A big embrace followed, with big smiles and a few wet eyes all over the hill.

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO MIKE AND LIZ!
